GEO for Med Spas: Get Cited by AI Search

By UpGeo · 2026-08-31

Direct answer: If you run a med spa or aesthetic injectable clinic, GEO comes down to making your website the clearest, most citable source for AI answer engines when patients ask about Botox, dermal fillers, or “best injector near me.” The moves that give you the most leverage: write a 40–60-word direct answer on every treatment page, add MedicalBusiness, Physician, and FAQPage schema, keep provider and pricing data consistent everywhere, and publish an llms.txt file so ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google know which pages to cite.

Why med spa AI citations are a booking-channel shift

OpenAI says ChatGPT hit 400 million weekly active users in February 2025, and Perplexity passed 100 million weekly queries in 2024. For local aesthetic queries, Google AI Overviews tends to synthesize answers from a small pool of medical, provider, and publisher domains. If your clinic isn’t in that cited set, the answer still gets generated — but it features your competitor, not you.

That’s the core difference between SEO and GEO: SEO earns a click, but GEO earns a recommendation inside an AI-generated answer. For a deeper look, check out what is GEO and how it differs from SEO.

Step 1: Turn treatment pages into direct answer sets

Skip the “Welcome to our luxurious clinic” opener. AI systems pull out short, factual passages. Each injectable page needs to answer one question in 40–60 words right below the H1.

Example for a Botox page in Dallas:

Botox in Dallas typically costs $12–$16 per unit. A forehead and glabellar treatment uses 20–40 units, so total cost ranges from $240 to $640. Results appear in 3–7 days and last 3–4 months.

Use question-based headings

Answer each one in 50–70 words. A table works well for comparisons, and a bullet list handles risks and aftercare. AI models gravitate toward information that’s scannable, specific, and self-contained.

Step 2: Add schema that disambiguates your clinic and providers

Search engines can understand a page without schema, but schema cuts down on ambiguity for AI systems that parse local businesses and medical providers. Add these types to the relevant pages:

Make sure provider names, credentials, phone, address, and hours match exactly on your website, Google Business Profile, RealSelf, Healthgrades, and Allergan/Galderma provider directories. AI models combine these sources, and inconsistencies lower the odds you get cited as the authoritative answer.

Step 3: Publish llms.txt and grant AI crawlers access

Plenty of aesthetic clinics block AI crawlers without realizing it, usually through blanket bot rules. Check your robots.txt and clear restrictions for the legit AI search bots. The AI crawlers list will help you spot GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, ClaudeBot, and the rest.

Then drop an llms.txt file at yourdomain.com/llms.txt. This plain-text file points AI systems to the pages you want them to read and tells them what’s on each one. Here’s a med spa example:

# Radiant Aesthetics Med Spa
> Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, lip filler, cheek filler, Morpheus8

## Injectable treatments
- /treatments/botox: Botox cost, units, downtime, longevity, risks
- /treatments/lip-filler: Lip filler cost by syringe, aftercare, swelling timeline
- /treatments/under-eye-filler: Tear trough candidacy, risks, alternatives

## Providers
- /providers/dr-sarah-levin: Board certification, years of experience, before/after cases

If you’d rather not write the file by hand, try the llms.txt generator. For the full implementation and formatting standards, see the llms.txt guide.

Step 4: Build comparison and cost tables

AI answer engines pull comparison data straight from tables all the time. If you put “Botox vs Dysport vs Xeomin” in a table, you’re much more likely to get cited than if you bury that information in brand copy.

Example comparison table

ComparisonBotoxDysportXeomin
Onset3–7 days2–5 days3–7 days
Typical longevity3–4 months3–4 months3–4 months
Average cost per unit$12–$16$5–$8$11–$15
DiffusionModerateBroaderMore localized

Do the same for lip fillers: Restylane Kysse, Juvéderm Ultra, Juvéderm Volbella, and RHA. Cover syringes, cost, longevity, and best anatomical use.

Step 5: Create citable off-site entity signals

Generative engines cross-check external sources. A strong GEO push for med spas includes:

  1. Claim and complete RealSelf, Healthgrades, Vitals, and Yelp profiles with the same NAP data.
  2. Get listed in manufacturer provider directories: Allergan Brilliant Distinctions, Galderma Aspire, Merz Aesthetics.
  3. Earn local press, podcast, or medical advisory board mentions that name your providers and clinic.
  4. Publish before/after galleries with descriptive alt text, procedure, provider, and timeline.
  5. Collect 5-star reviews that mention the specific treatment and symptom, not just “great service.”

Step 6: Test AI answers and refine

Run these queries in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews using an incognito or signed-out browser:

Note whether your clinic shows up in the cited sources, the generated answer, or neither. If a competitor gets cited, look at what they’re doing differently: shorter answers, more schema, better third-party consistency, or a cleaner llms.txt.

Do this check every month. GEO isn’t a one-time fix; it’s an ongoing citation-engineering process that adapts to how AI models select and quote sources.
